The Process
Following up our first exclusive (TMNT 100) with a Turtles Power Rangers crossover just made sense to us. We had a couple ideas in our heads initially that were rejected for different reasons. First, Boom provided a list of potential artists and we jumped at the chance to work with Matt Frank. Knowing his history with Kaiju, we asked if we could have him do a Ninja Turtle Zord on the cover, which was rejected by the licensor because it wasn't something that existed. Our second ask was for Shredder to be holding a cracked Ranger helmet, which was rejected by Boom Studios. Subsequently, as some will remember, Boom released the Shredder idea we'd asked about as a one-per-store retailer exclusive. We can't be mad about that, it was amazing and a great thank you to all the stores that supported the first issue.

Finally, we asked if we could do an homage to Infinity Gauntlet #1 with Shredder's fist in place of Thanos. George Perez's cover is an iconic and one of Steve's all-time favorites. Finally, we had a concept that Boom and the licensor approved of!

Now our question was "Is Matt going to pull this off?" He's an immensely talented guy, but asking him to do an homage to a George Perez masterpiece was a tall task. The second we saw the rough draft, we knew we'd made all the right choices.

Our Thoughts
Matt is a true professional and was great to work with. He put everything he had into making Power Rangers Ninja Turtles #1 the best thing it could be and his long time collaborator and colorist Josh Perez made the cover pop like we couldn't believe. They'd absolutely knocked it out of the park!

Cover Alpha is looking forward to our next opportunity to work with Matt and with Marvel's Ultraman #1 around the corner we may have the right fit soon!
